This specification covers an ambient temperature curing, two-component water-borne epoxy coating for steel that is intended for use as a primer of a multicoat water-borne epoxy or other coating system.

Primer coatings are categorized according to performance levels

Properly topcoated primers meeting this specification are suitable for exposures in Environmental Zones 1A (interior, normally dry), 1B (exterior, normally dry), 2A (frequently wet by fresh water), 2B (frequently wet by salt water) and 3C (chemical exposure, alkaline).

The specified primer is intended for application by brush, spray, or roller over steel surfaces prepared in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. It is suitable as a shop primer, field primer, aintenance primer, or intermediate coat, and is to be applied in accordance with SSPC-PA 1, Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel. Manufacturer's recommendations should be followed when the primed steel is to be weathered prior to topcoating.
