SSPC-AB 1 contains requirements for classification, evaluation, and performance of mineral and slag or other by-product abrasives used for blast cleaning steel and other surfaces for painting and other purposes.
Abrasives are classified by type, crystalline silica content, and typical profile range produced under standard test conditions. The standard contains requirements for testing performed by the manufacturer to properly classify the abrasives, conformance or verification testing if required by customer, and field testing for contaminants immediately prior to abrasive use.
