Contractors Needed for Navy WW Tanks Coating

The Department of the Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command is soliciting bids for coating and repairs to three steel wastewater tanks.

The submittal date for this project is July 15.

Scope of Work

This project involves cleaning, inspection, coating and repairs to Tanks 3, 7 and 10 at Oily Waste Treatment Facility (OWTF) at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut.

Interior immersion surfaces will require a coating system consisting of oxide primer and 100%-solids epoxy, with chemical resistance to oil, kerosene and other hydrocarbons, which may be encountered in discharge bilge waters.

The tanks will require draining, high-pressure waterjetting and abrasive blast cleaning in preparation for application of anti-corrosive coatings. Certification for SSPC-QP 1 is required.

This OWTF is a facility which treats and stores bilge water from submarines maintained at the Naval Base. The facility was built in 1999, and the aforementioned tanks have only had minor maintenance performed on them since their initial installation, according to the project owner.
