Army Corps Seeking Bids for VA Bridge Repaint

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, requires a contract to clean and repaint girders and support members on the John H. Kerr Spillway Bridge located in Boydton, Virginia.

This project is currently in the advanced notice stage. A solicitation is anticipated to be issued on Aug. 5.

Scope of Work

This advanced notice project involves cleaning and recoating girders and support members on the bridge steel superstructure of the John H. Kerr Spillway Bridge. The structure has 22 spans over the dam's 22 tainter gates. Each span has two main girders. The approach roadway is a concrete surface on the top of the concrete dam's non-overflow monoliths. There are eight to the west of the spillway bridge and eleven to the east of the spillway bridge. Seven of these monoliths have head gates.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, requires a contract to clean and repaint girders and support members on the John H. Kerr Spillway Bridge located in Boydton, Virginia.

The project includes abrasive blast-cleaning steel girder surfaces to White Metal standards (SSPC-SP 5/NACE No. 1) or Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 3), where needed. Steel members will be coated with System No. 21-A-Z which includes an epoxy zinc-rich primer and two coats of an epoxy polyamide system. The owner-approved coating manufacturers include PRC-Desoto International, Spectrum Coatings, International Paint, Hentzen Coatings, C&C Ventures (Randolph Products), Sherwin-Williams and NCP Coatings.

The existing coatings are confirmed to contain lead. Certification to SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are required with experience in lead abatement.

The project is a 100% Small Business set-aside contract. The contract issued will be a Firm Fixed Price. The solicitation will be issued in electronic format on or about Aug. 5, 2022.
