FL Seeking Bids for Work on Historic Jail

Monroe County, in Key West, Florida, is seeking bids for replacing doors, windows and the roof on its historic Key West Jail, which was built in the year 1892.

Bids are due for this project on Dec. 17.

Scope of Work:

All exterior ferrous metal will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of one coat rust-inhibitive paint and two coats latex. All exterior galvanized metal surfaces will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of three coats of alkyd house paint.

Any interior wood surface in this project will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of hand rubbed Watco oil. Interior gypsum surfaces in this project will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of three coats of latex.

Any exterior wood surface that requires a medium gloss finish will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of one coat of primer and two coats of latex. Finally, any exterior wood surface that requires a high gloss finish will be coated using a three-coat system consisting of one coat primer and two coats of house paint.

Surface preparation occurring on metals to be shop primed should follow the standards associated with Commercial Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 6) and Power-Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 3).

The approved coating manufacturer is Benjamin Moore.
