Job Overview:

McDermott currently has an openingfor a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Industrial Insulation, Fireproofing, andCoatings expertise for our West Houston location. The selected candidate willhave the opportunity to work independently and in a team setting within adynamic work environment.

KeyResponsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for onshore facilities insulation,fireproofing, and coatings work throughout all project phases (FEED, Detail Design,Construction).

    • Creation and development of projectspecifications, or review/amendment of client-provided specifications.

    • Review of supplier documentation for allcoatings, insulation, and fireproofing requirements, as well as providingtechnical direction for mediation of supplier issues such as RFIs, NCRs.

    • Creation and development of insulation andfireproofing subcontract packages, including review of technical bids,evaluation and qualification of subcontractors and applicators. Provide supportto subcontractors for any RFIs, NCRs, or other technical issues.

    • Provide site support on an as-needed basis forfabrication and construction issues.

  • Assist with development of budgets andschedules for scope-of-work on projects.

  • Assist Equipment and Package RequisitionEngineers with coatings, insulation, fireproofing requirements andapplicability

  • Work closely with project management to alignon coatings/insulation/fireproofing philosophies for the Project.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum10 years demonstrable, applicable experience in Coatings, Insulation, andFireproofing, or combination thereof for the onshore energy industry.

  • Knowledgeof coatings, insulation, and fireproofing materials and technologies commonlyused in onshore applications, emerging technologies and materials, as well astesting and inspection methods.

  • Technicalwriting skills, particularly for development of specifications, reports, whitepapers, and articles.

  • Familiaritywith relevant industry standards (ex. NACE, SSPC, PIP, API, ASTM), with relatedcertifications and coursework a plus (ex. NACE CIP certification).

  • Minimumeducation: Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Materials Engineering. Mastersor PhD in those disciplines a plus.

  • Passport/visa/abilityto travel

  • Travel:up to 25% domestically and internationally

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to balance several projects and areasof focus at once, and to maintain schedule deadlines.

  • Ability to maintain steady focus on changemanagement and scope/schedule slip.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal andwritten). Must be able to effectively communicate across project teams,including project management, construction management, site work teams,in-office engineering teams, international McDermott offices, clients,suppliers, and subcontractors.

  • Membership in relevant industry organizations(NACE, SSPC, PIP) is a plus.

  • Experience withoffshore facilities is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
