The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded a contract in the amount of $1,087,000 for painting and rehabilitation to one bridge structure on River Street (Kentucky State Route 66) over South Fork Kentucky River in Clay County.

The project involves cleaning and painting the existing steel bridge structure, as well as 11,088 square feet of concrete sealing. The contractor will also oversee steel reinforcement and joint replacement.

Structural steel will receive a three-coat painting system, consisting of a zinc primer, an epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish.
The existing coatings may contain lead; Class 2A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required. The contractor is responsible for performing quality control coatings inspection services, including the provision of an SSPC C-3 qualified individual to oversee waste handling.
Surfaces will require preparation in accordance with standards for pressure washing and Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2).
Owner-approved manufacturers include Advanced Chemical Technologies, BASF, Carboline, ChemMasters, Evonik Industries, PPG Paints, Sherwin-Williams, TK Products, Vexcon and W.R. Meadows.
