Contract Awarded for PA Interstate Bridge Painting

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $1,578,587.95 for painting and rehabilitation of the State Route 4034 bridge over I-99 in Imler, Pennsylvania.

The contract was awarded to Swank Construction Co. of New Kensington, Pennsylvania.

Swank Construction was the lowest of three apparent bidders. Additional bids included HRI, Inc. of State College, Pennsylvania, in the amount of $1,590,997; and Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance, Inc. of Everett, Pennsylvania, in the amount of $1,644,152.70.

The project involves cleaning and painting structural steel surfaces, removing existing deck joints at abutments, adding new expansion dams and placing latex-modified concrete overlay over the entire deck. The contractor will oversee repairing spalled, delaminated and hollow areas of concrete on the specified far abutment.

The project includes one lump sum item for painting existing structural steel, and approximately 1,500 square yards of concrete overlay and protective coating.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $1,578,587.95 for painting and rehabilitation of the State Route 4034 bridge over I-99 in Imler, Pennsylvania.

This contract also includes structure work on State Route 1004 that carries traffic over Cove Creek in Snake Spring Township, including placing grout between existing precast elements, performing stabilization of existing approach slab and installing structure foundation drains.

Containment according to SSPC-Guide 6, waste disposal according to Guide 7, and certifications for SSPC-QP 1, QP2 and QP 3 are required.

Surfaces must be cleaned and prepared in accordance with standards for high-pressure waterjetting and Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2). Concrete surfaces will require a coating system of epoxy resin and latex-modified overlay. Structural steel will receive a coating system consisting of organic zinc, epoxy and urethane.

Owner-approved manufacturers include Carboline, Corro Therm, International Paint, PPG, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser.
