Gilmerton Bridge Auxiliary Counterweight Rehab

The City of Chesapeake accepting bids for installation of a new auxiliary counterweight system on the Gilmerton Bridge located in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Bids are due May 27.

Scope of Work

Bids are being accepted for complete redesign and installation of a new auxiliary counterweight system on the Gilmerton Bridge crossing the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Chesapeake, Virginia. Work will also include modification of the bridge skew control system, as well as rope slip and tension adjustment.

The City of Chesapeake accepting bids for installation of a new auxiliary counterweight system on the Gilmerton Bridge located in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The paint system for the new auxiliary counterweight system components will include an inorganic zinc-rich primer, epoxy polyamide intermediate and an aliphatic acrylic top coat. The owner-approved coating manufacturer is Carboline or an engineer-approved equivalent.

The new skew resolver components will be coated with a high-gloss oil-resistant paint for external use and resistant to weathering and abrasion. The coating system will consist of one coat aluminum epoxy mastic primer, and two finish coats of an aliphatic polyurethane. The owner-approved coating manufacturers include Carboline and Sherwin-Williams, or an engineer-approved equivalent.

The threads of all mounting bolts and fitted bolts will be coated with an anti-seize compound before assembly to prevent corrosion or galling and to facilitate in future removal, if necessary. The owner-approved anti-seize compounds are A.W. Chesterton and Henkel Corporation.
