NJ Seeks Contractors for Phase 3 Bridge Painting

The Delaware River Port Authority is seeking contractors to perform Phase 3 for painting of the Commodore Barry Bridge in Camden, New Jersey.

A pre-bid meeting will be held Sept. 29 through a Zoom conference.

Bids are due Oct. 27.

Scope of Work

This project involves painting of cantilever truss spans, barriers and signal gantries of the Commodore Barry Bridge over the Delaware River. Additional maintenance will include steel repairs to deck truss and cantilever truss spans, vibration absorber repairs, substructure repairs along the Pennsylvania approach spans, anchor bolt and bearing repairs along the Pennsylvania approach spans and replacement of the electrical facilities throughout.

The Delaware River Port Authority is seeking contractors to perform Phase 3 for painting of the Commodore Barry Bridge in Camden, New Jersey.

Coating work will include removal of existing lead-based paint by abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10) standards and application of a new coating system to cantilever truss spans, steel barriers and signal gantries. Steel barrier rehabilitation will include the roadway side of the entire bridge and the maintenance walkway side from the New Jersey approach spans and cantilever truss spans. Containment is required.

Steel members will be coated with either NEPCOAT List A for shop-painted new structural steel or NEPCOAT List B for existing coated structural steel. New structural steel receiving shop coatings will receive a zinc-epoxy primer, and urethane-aliphatic urethane topcoat. Owner-approved manufacturers are Sherwin-Williams and Carboline. Existing painted structural steel members will be coated with NEPCOAT List B including a zinc-epoxy primer and urethane-aliphatic urethane top coat. Owner-approved manufacturers are Ameron (PPG), Wasser, Sherwin-Williams and International Paint. These systems are subject to change according to project requirements.

The awarded contractor will also oversee cleaning and painting of span W18 over Amtrack, and cleaning and painting of the water tower located near the DRPA administration building in New Jersey.

This project is a continuation of Phase 2 of the coating process, which bid in December, 2017.
