Contractors Needed for HI Residents' Center

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is seeking contractors to complete a residents' center located in Honolulu.

Bids are due Nov. 8.

Scope of Work

The project will consist of construction of a modular community center on Hawaiian Home Lands in Ho’olehua, Moloka’i. Construction will include a parking lot, wastewater system, furnishing the new building and the building itself. This project will heavily serve veterans in the area and offer convenience due to the Molokai Airport being nearby.

The approved contractor will oversee various shop painting in which primer will be applied to the surface of metal fabrications. This requires Paint Application Specification No. 1 (SSPC-PA 1). These surfaces also require Commercial Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 6) to exterior surfaces, and Power-Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 3) to interior surfaces.

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is seeking contractors to complete a residents' center located in Honolulu.

The project also may include repairing galvanized steel with high-zinc-dust-content paint complying with SSPC-Paint 20. Exterior and interior galvanized and non-ferrous metal surfaces will receive a three-coat acrylic semi-gloss system.

Exposed surfaces including nuts and bolts will be wire brush-cleaned to remove foreign and loose materials. Cleaning will be followed with sanding to provide a smooth surface. Ductile iron will then be coated with an asphaltium coating system. A second coat will be applied as directed by the construction manager.

Exterior concrete, cement plaster and fiber cement siding will require a prime coat of an acrylic masonry sealer, a second coating of acrylic exterior stain and an acrylic house and trim semi-gloss finish coating. Painted wood and soffit exterior surfaces will receive an acrylic primer and two coats of acrylic house and trim semi-gloss paint. Interior wood surfaces will be coated with an alkyd/oil wood grain filler followed by a polyurethane finish coat or an interior latex primer followed by an acrylic semi-gloss top coat. Interior gypsum board, walls and ceilings will receive a three-coat latex acrylic system.

Primed and unprimed exterior ferrous metal surfaces will receive a zinc primer followed by an epoxy intermediate and a hi-solids polyurethane finish application. Interior ferrous metal will receive two coats of a low lustre metal and wood enamel. Primed and unprimed ferrous metal at the pool building is exposed and will require a zinc primer, epoxy intermediate and a polyurethane finish coating.

The owner-approved manufacturers include: Benjamin Moore, ICI Devoe, ICI Dulux, Pittsburg, Pratt & Lambert, Rust-Oleum, Sherwin-Williams, Glidden, Sikkens or approved equal.
