WI Water Tower Painting Contract Awarded

Waukesha Water Utility has awarded a project for recoating the Hunter Water Tower to George Kountoupes Painting Co., of Lincoln Park, Michigan.

The project bid May 7.

George Kountoupes Painting Co. was the lowest of eight bidders with an awarded bid amount of $215,800. Additional bids included Seven Brothers Painting Inc., in the amount of $216,500; LC United Painting Co., in the amount of $219,000; V&T Painting LLC, in the amount of $221,350; Maguire Iron Inc., in the amount of $318,840; TMI Coatings, Inc., in the amount of $354,000; Utility Service Co. Inc., in the amount of $355,600; and Classic Protective Coatings in the amount of $463,600.

Scope of Work

The awarded contractor will oversee the coating rehabilitation of the Hunter Water Tower in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The interior and exterior surfaces of the 400,000-gallon elevated water storage tank will be cleaned and coated.

Waukesha Water Utility has awarded a project for recoating the Hunter Water Tower to George Kountoupes Painting Co., of Lincoln Park, Michigan.

The project includes high-pressure water cleaning, spot-power tool cleaning (SSPC-SP 11) and coating the exterior tank surfaces with a three-coat epoxy-urethane system.

The contractor will also clean wet interior surfaces to a Near White Finish (SSPC-SP 10). The interior wet surfaces will then be coated with a three-coat zinc-epoxy system. The roof lap seams will be caulked as well.

The contractor will also clean the dry interior surfaces to a Commercial Finish (SSPC-SP 6). The dry interior surfaces will then be coated with a two-coat epoxy system.

The work also includes water cleaning and coating the concrete foundation surfaces with a two-coat epoxy system.

The owner-approved coating manufacturers include: Tnemec, Induron and Sherwin-Williams. 

Dehumidification is required.
