Exterior Painting Needed on DE Lighthouse

The Delaware Office of Management and Budget is seeking contractors to perform exterior painting services for the Delaware Breakwater Lighthouse located in Cape Henlopen, Delaware.

The lighthouse was commissioned in 1884 to replace the Cape Henlopen Beacon. Completed Oct. 2, 1885, the lighthouse reaches 56 feet tall.

Bids are due June 26. 

Scope of Work 

The project includes cleaning, repairing and painting all metal exterior elements of the Delaware Breakwater Lighthouse.

The Delaware Office of Management and Budget is seeking contractors to perform exterior painting services for the Delaware Breakwater Lighthouse located in Cape Henlopen, Delaware.

The contract will also include repair and coating of exterior surfaces as well as coating of wood frame windows, exterior cast iron skin cladding, ornamental metal railings, metal window portals and frames, metal decks and brackets, metal roofing and finial.

Wooden windows will require removal of all sealants before application of a primer and exterior acrylic coating application. Iron window cladding will require repair and cleaning before priming and painting application. The project includes alternate items for wood window removal and reinstallation and replacement of the existing damaged concrete pier supporting the existing exterior stairway. Windows to be removed will require cleaning, priming, coating and sealant application before reinstallation.

Cast iron metal and wood substrates will require high-performance elastomeric coating application to HPC-1 through HPC-3 as specified. The project includes an alternate to substitute the manufacturer’s standard colors in lieu of custom colors to match the specified custom colors for high-performance coatings elastomeric HPC-1 through HPC-3.

The existing wood sub-frame and sub-sill are to remain. These members will require cleaning, priming and exterior acrylic coating before installation. The project includes an alternate item to remove the existing wood sub-frame and sub-sill for replacement with new cedar members. New members will require cleaning, priming and back-priming application.
