The City of Beloit, Wisconsin, is soliciting bids for the coating of the Krueger Pool. The pool is considered a historical landmark in the city, and was built in the 1930s as part of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s "Works Progress Administration" initiative.
It is estimated that 12,750 square feet of the main pool and 4,317 square feet of the diving well are to be recoated.
Bids are due for this project by Feb. 26.
Scope of Work
The awarded contractor is responsible for the cleaning and recoating of the main pool, diving well and umbrella at the Krueger Pool. The work will include the removal and replacement of caulking and backer rods of expansion and perimeter joints.

Prior to coating, the contactor will oversee that the pool and items scheduled for repainting are pressure washed with a zero-degree angle power washer in order to remove all bubbling paint. Before brush blasting and final pressure washing, the contractor is to cut out, remove and dispose of all caulk and backer rods.
Any existing crack filler does not have to be removed unless loose or damaged. The contractor will then insure all drains are protected and brush blast the pool surfaces with slag. When a uniform anchor profile has been created, the contractor will then clean, remove and dispose of all slag from the vessel. A final pressure washing will then be completed in order to remove all dust, dirt or remaining particles.
Following the cleaning process, the contractor is responsible for meeting with a city representative to inspect any cracks, fractures and spalls that may exist within the pool. Any cracks needing repair will receive proper sealant before moving forward with coating applications.
Once all surfaces are prepared to a satisfactory state, the contractor can then begin the coating process. The diving vessel, pool vessel, pool steps, pool perimeter and pool umbrella are all scheduled to receive two coats of an epoxy application. Colors on each system will vary, and the contractor is advised to review the project specifications. After coating systems have been applied and are dry, the contractor may then caulk all necessary joints.
This project is scheduled to begin April 12 and must be completed by June 1.
The owner-approved brand is Amerlock 400 or an equivalent.
