There is a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting on March 8.

Scope of the Coating Work
Surface preparation for this project will require that all oils or grease are removed and all caulk or sealants are applied smooth and continuously. Power-washing may be necessary to remove existing mold and heavy dirt areas. Once the exterior of the home has been properly cleaned, application of an approved exterior-acrylic coatings system shall be applied to match previous coatings.
Because the ranch house is located adjacent to a residential subdivision, extreme care will be taken to prevent any spread of construction debris or overspray of paint. During the coatings removal, the contractor is instructed to work in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for the historic preservation of the home.
Upon completion of the project, the contractor is expected to restore the site and surrounding grade and drainage ways to conditions acceptable for the city’s representative. Eleven months after completion of work, the contractor and City of Converse shall inspect the home to determine if any further repair work is necessary. The contractor is responsible for the removal, handling and disposable of used abrasive, hazardous and/or toxic waste materials.
The total project is scheduled to take 45 calendar days and is expected to take place from April to July 2018 to ensure the viability of the home.
The owner-approved coatings manufacturer is Sherwin-Williams, though the contractor may request equal products be approved in writing, up to five days prior to the bid date.
About the House
The historic ranch-style house was built by Anton Otto Schumann in the 1900s. Before the home was built, the 1,476-acre farm was originally owned by Major James Converse, the founder and namesake of the City of Converse. He was also the chief superintendent and engineer for the Galveston/Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway.
In 1882, Edward Hall purchased the property and sold 120 acres to Anton Schumann in 1900. In 2000, the Texas Deptartment of Agriculture honored the Anton O. Schumann Farm with the Family Heritage Plaque for the continuous family ownership for 100 years. In 2015, 17.39 acres of parkland and the Schumann-Scheel home were donated to the Converse History Museum according to the wishes of Adolph Scheel, the husband of Anton’s daughter Mary.
