SUMMARY:
Operate manual spray painting equipment to apply industrial paint finishes on metal products, with enough expeirence to take on a Team Lead role.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a minimum two (2) years of service as a Finish Painter II, or a minimum of five (5) years of primer and / or paint spraying experience, including some leadership responsibilities.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or three to six months related experience and/or training in similar environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to the following):
- Physical presence is an essential job function for this position
- Completely reviews work order to ensure all required items have been prepared for finish painting
- Applies paint (top / finish coat) to frames, operators, gates, stock parts, and other accessories per work order
- Must have all painted gates and parts inspected and signed off prior to handing off to the next department (may not inspect own work)
- Thoroughly cleans spraying equipment with proper cleaning agents when finished spraying
- Assists the Paint Prep Technician and Primer preparing items for the priming and / or painting operation
- Follows daily / weekly department flow sheet
- Reports supply shortage to Plant Manager by way of Purchasing / Manufacturing Form
- Maintains good general housekeeping, a clean and safe work environment free of open containers, wiping rags, empty paint cans, etc.
- Assist the Plant Manager by training and overseeing the work of others within the department to achieve and maintain quality and productivity standards.
- Ensure quality standards are met and upheld at all times by performing interdepartmental QC checks (this includes prepared gates and parts as well as primed /painted gates and parts), sign off is required
- Troubleshoot and correct quality deficiencies
- Follows all HazMat policies per training received
- Follows all safety rules for the Paint Department
- Other duties may be assigned
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide daily production progress reports
- Verify daily/weekly department flow sheet is filled out on the first workday of the week
- Verify all primer, paint and thinner used within the department is tracked and logged on the proper forms
- Verify daily forklift inspection is performed as appropriate
- Maintain adequate department supply levels (may delegate to others within the department)
- Maintain accurate primer, paint, and thinner inventory (within 10% monthly)
- Verify all required paperwork contained within the work order packet is filled out correctly prior to handing off to the next department
- Verifies weekly waste barrel inspection is completed and proper documentation is filled out
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE REQUIREMENTS:
A person performing this job function is required to wear safety glasses with side shields and steel toe shoes at all times. Work pants, short sleeve shirts, and protective gloves are required at all times while handling and using primer, paint chemicals and / or cleaning solutions. Respirators are required at all times while priming or painting.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to read tape measure to 32nds of an inch.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
