Contractors Needed for FL Library, Education Center

Monroe County, Florida, is seeking contractors for the construction of the new Marathon Library & Adult Education Center. The new two-story, 17,000-square-foot concrete-and-masonry building will be located in Marathon, Florida, and will require coatings and other finishes.

Bids are due Feb. 20.

Scope of Work

This project will require the preparation and cleaning either by hand or power-tool methods of newly constructed concrete and wood surfaces scheduled to receive coating applications. The contractor will also be responsible for the cleaning of all ferrous metal to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6) and brush-off blast cleaning of all galvanized metal (SSPC-SP 7) prior to receiving coatings.

Monroe County, Florida, is seeking contractors for the construction of the new Marathon Library & Adult Education Center.

After surfaces are sufficiently cleaned, the awarded contractor will oversee that all exterior concrete, stucco, brick, concrete unit masonry and wood are given one coat of specified surface primer and two coats of an exterior low-luster acrylic application. Those surfaces are also scheduled to receive a low-luster acrylic elastomeric waterproof system.

In addition to the previously mentioned exterior surfaces, all exterior ferrous metals, zinc-coated metals and aluminum surfaces are to receive one coat of specified surface primer and two coats of an exterior full-gloss acrylic enamel and two coats of an exterior semi-gloss acrylic enamel recommended for ferrous and other metal surfaces.

When coating the interior of the new library and learning center, the awarded contractor is expected to clean and paint all concrete and brick surfaces with one coat of interior concrete and masonry primer, followed by two coats of an interior low-luster acrylic enamel. All exposed interior concrete masonry unit surfaces will require one coat of epoxy primer and two coats of a waterborne semi-gloss epoxy acrylic coating application.

The new two-story, 17,000-square-foot concrete and masonry building will be located in Marathon, Florida, and will require coatings and other finishes.

The contractor will oversee that all gypsum board and plaster is properly primed and given an interior low-luster acrylic coating, whereas acoustical plaster will receive two coats of an interior flat acrylic coating. Any interior wood, ferrous metals or zinc-coated metals are scheduled to receive one coat of a specified surface primer and two coats of an interior full-gloss acrylic enamel in addition to two coats of an interior semi-gloss acrylic enamel. This project requires that all service jackets are to receive a two coat application of an interior flat latex-emulsion size.

The contractor chosen for the construction of this project will ensure proper interior stain and natural finishes of woodwork. All interior stained and natural-finished woodwork is scheduled to be cleaned, properly primed or stained, followed by the application of two coats of both interior waterborne clear satin varnish and interior waterborne clear full-gloss varnish.

The architect’s specifications are based on Sherwin-Williams coating systems with approved equals that include Benjamin Moore, Coronado Paint, Duron, ICI Devoe, MAB Paints and PPG.
