PennDOT Seeks Bridge Bids

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for the rehabilitation of the Elizabeth Bridge, located in Allegheny County.

Bids are due June 8.

Scope of Work

This project involves rehabilitation of the cantilever-arch through-truss steel Elizabeth Bridge, which was originally constructed in 1873 and spans the Monongahela River. The bridge was reportedly last fully rehabbed in 1985.

PennDOT is seeking bids for the rehabilitation of the Elizabeth Bridge, built in 1873.

The chosen contractor is expected to perform coating of new and existing structural steel surfaces, top flanges and mating surfaces. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10), tested for soluble salt with as-needed chloride remediation, and recoated with a three-coat organic zinc-epoxy-urethane system selected from NEPCOAT List B. The approved manufacturers are Ameron (PPG), Carboline, Wasser, The Sherwin-Williams Company, and International Paint.

Contractors will perform 6,730 square yards of penetrating sealant protective coating on reinforced concrete superstructure surfaces. The approved manufacturers are Advanced Chemical Technologies, Aquron Corporation, BASF, Concrete Sealants Inc., Euclid, Evonik, Prosoco, Vexcon, Wicktek, and Xypex.

Contractors will oversee 8,200 square yards of epoxy resin protective coating application for reinforced concrete surfaces. Approved manufacturers are Cargill, Transpo, and Dayton Superior.

Containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 and waste disposal according to Guide 7 are required.
