The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $1,297,304.25 for coating and repairs to two existing bridge structures along State Route 3003 over I-80 in Irwin, Pennsylvania.
Project Award
The contract was awarded to Swank Construction Co. of New Kensington, Pennsylvania.
Swank Construction was reportedly the lowest of three apparent bidders. Additional bids included Charles J. Merlo, Inc. (Mineral Point, Pennsylvania) in the amount of $1,363,000; and Mekis Construction Corp. (Fenelton, Pennsylvania) in the amount of $1,426,093.77.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $1,297,304.25 for coating and repairs to two existing bridge structures along State Route 3003 over I-80 in Irwin, Pennsylvania.

The project includes 1,547 total square yards of penetrating sealer for concrete superstructure and substructure, and 786 square yards of latex-modified concrete overlay. Other specified surfaces require 104 square yards of elastomeric waterproofing membrane.
Surfaces will require preparation by high-pressure water jetting, specifically 786 square yards of hydrodemolition, as well as 1,556 square yards of scarification.
The contractor will also oversee removal and replacement of deteriorated concrete, joint sealing, spall repair, milling and paving, drainage and guide rail construction, as well as maintenance and miscellaneous site work.
