PennDOT Seeking Bids for Bridge Painting, Repairs

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is soliciting bids for a contract of up to $5,000,000 for painting and repairs to various bridges along several state routes.

The submittal date for the project is Feb. 16.

Contract areas include portions of Route 248 in Carbon and Northampton Counties; Route 443 in Schuylkill County; Route 209 in Schuylkill and Monroe Counties; Route 8011 in Schuylkill County; and Route 435 in Monroe County.

The project involves cleaning, recoating, concrete sealing, steel repairs and deck rehabilitation. The contract includes four lump sum items for painting existing structural steel. Steel surfaces will receive a coating system consisting of an organic zinc primer, epoxy intermediate and urethane topcoat.

Concrete surfaces will require 4,080 square yards of polyester polymer concrete overlay.

The contract also includes 23,616 square yards of scarification, as well as installation of latex modified concrete, railing and deck joint repairs, concrete spall repairs, and jacking existing superstructure.

Steel surfaces will require preparation in accordance with standards for Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2). The contract includes high-pressure water jetting of 3,513 square yards of existing concrete substrates.

Containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required, as well as waste disposal according to Guide 7. Certifications for SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are also required.

Owner-approved manufacturers include Carboline, International Paint, PPG Paints, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser.
