Contract Awarded for WV Bridge Rehabilitation

The West Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $507,364 to Elite Industrial Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida, for rehabilitation of the Gormania Bridge located in Grant County, West Virginia.

Elite Industrial Painting was the lowest of eight apparent bidders. Additional bidders include:

  • Euro Paint, LLC, of Youngstown, Ohio, in the amount of $569,018;
  • Elite Contractors, Inc. of Campbell, Ohio, in the amount of $651,045;
  • Legend Painting, Inc., of Campbell, Ohio, in the amount of $651,896.08;
  • Saffo Contractors, Inc. of Wilmington, North Carolina, in the amount of $691,935;
  • Southern Road & Bridge, LLC, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $832,470;
  • KMX Painting, Inc., of Lowellville, Ohio, in the amount of $877,530; and
  • K.V.K. Contracting, Inc., of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $989,000.

The project bid February 8, 2022. The project was awarded March 1, 2022.

Scope of Work

Elite Industrial Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida, has been awarded a contract involving rehabilitation of the four-span Gormania Bridge. The structure has an overall length of 338 feet with a 28-foot horizontal clearance. The steel deck on steel girder bridge is located along U.S. Route 50 and crossed the North Branch of the Potomac River.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $507,364 to Elite Industrial Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida, for rehabilitation of the Gormania Bridge located in Grant County, West Virginia.

Work will include cleaning and painting of approximately 206 tons of structural steel members. All structural steel will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2) or to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3) standard and coated with a three-coat organic zinc-rich system. The owner-approved coating manufacturers are Ameron (PPG), Carboline, International Paint, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser. Containment and disposal of spent material is required.

The awarded contractor will oversee 10,350 square feet of concrete protective coating application. The owner-approved coating manufacturers are Sherwin-Williams, Textured Coatings of America and TK Products. Work will also include bridge cleaning. Bridge cleaning will include a dry pre-wash followed by a two-phase water clean of 3,000 – 4,500 PSI using a low-pressure washer.

Certifications for SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are required.
