Contractors Wanted for WV Bridge Work

The West Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to perform cleaning and painting of the Gormania Bridge located in Grant County, West Virginia.

Bids are due Feb. 8, 2022.

Scope of Work

Contractors are being sought for rehabilitation of the four-span Gormania Bridge. The structure has an overall length of 338-feet with a 28-foot horizontal clearance. The steel deck on steel girder bridge is located along U.S. Route 50 and crosses the North Branch of the Potomac River.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to perform cleaning and painting of the Gormania Bridge located in Grant County, West Virginia.

Work will include cleaning and painting of approximately 206 tons of structural steel members. All structural steel will require abrasive blast cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2) or to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3) standard and coated with a three-coat organic zinc-rich system. The owner-approved coating manufacturers are Ameron (PPG), Carboline, International Paint, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser. Containment and disposal of spent material is required.

The awarded contractor will oversee 10,350 square feet of concrete protective coating application. The owner-approved coating manufacturers are Sherwin-Williams, Textured Coatings of America and TK Products. Work will also include bridge cleaning. Bridge cleaning will include a dry prewash followed by a two-phase water clean of 3,000–4,500 PSI using a low-pressure washer.

Certifications for SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are required.
