The contractor will limit the abrasive blast-cleaning of pack rust from the rocker bearings so that pack rust will remain between the curved rocker bearing, sole plate and masonry plate to prevent gaps. These areas will be coated according to MDSHA System H, which includes a penetrating sealer spot primer, aluminum filled epoxy mastic spot intermediate and aliphatic urethane spot finish.
The owner-approved structural steel coating manufacturers include Baril Coatings, Carboline, International Protective Coatings, PPG, Sherwin-Williams, Tnemec, Valspar and Wasser.
The existing coatings contain lead; Class 1A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required. SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications are also required. MDSHA personnel will perform the coatings inspection services. All existing paint chips will be removed from the ground within 100 feet of all bridge structures.
A paint system performance warranty is required.
