Bids Needed for Historic PA Bridge Rehab

Lehigh County is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation of the Manasses Guth Covered Bridge located in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Constructed in 1858, the structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bids are due Feb. 10.

Scope of Work

Lehigh County is seeking contractors interested in overseeing rehabilitation of the Manasses Guth Covered Bridge. The project will include coating of planks, timber siding framing members, new structural steel, exposed portions of new and existing timber truss members above the deck line, and new hardware.

Lehigh County is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation of the Manasses Guth Covered Bridge located in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The chosen contractor will oversee painting steel and staining of wood bridge components. The project includes application of one coat primer and two coats finish to all exposed portions of truss hardware visible from below, inside, and outside of the bridge structure.

The steel will be coated with standard NEPCOAT B including a zinc-epoxy primer and urethane-aliphatic urethane topcoat. This system is subject to change according to project requirements. Approved coating and staining manufacturers are Pratt & Lambert, Sherwin-Williams, Duron, and Glidden or an approved equivalent.

The existing structure may contain lead paint and other toxic materials. The slate has been determined to contain non-friable Category 1 asbestos. Disposal of bridge waste is required.
