Bids Wanted for VA Bridge Rehabilitation

The City of Suffolk is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation of the Lake Cohoon Road bridge structure located in Suffolk, Virginia.

A non-mandatory pre-bid conference will be held Oct. 27.

Bids are due on Nov. 10.

Scope of Work

The City of Suffolk is seeking a qualified firm to provide all plant, labor and supplies in order to complete the Lake Cohoon Bridge Rehabilitation project. The existing structure spans a CSX railway on Lake Cohoon Road and will include recoating of structural steel members.

The City of Suffolk is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation of the Lake Cohoon Road bridge structure located in Suffolk, Virginia.

The project includes a lump sum item for recoating existing structure members. The existing coatings are in poor condition. Beams, diaphragms and bearing devices are pitted and scaled with rust, especially at bearing areas over piers.

Surface rust and peeling paint are present at bearing areas and bottom flanges. Pack rust is present between the top flange of the end diaphragms and underside of the deck throughout the entire bridge structure. The steel will be recoated with an inorganic zinc-epoxy-polyurethane system; this system is subject to change according to project requirements. Approved manufacturers are Carboline, ICI Devoe, Elite, Indmar, Induron, International Paint, PPG, Sherwin-Williams, Tnemec, U.S. Coatings and Valspar.

Disposal of materials is required. Certifications for SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are required. SSPC-QP 2 certification will be required for contractors and subcontractors performing field surface preparation in existing structural steel with hazardous coatings.
