DE Seeks Bridge Deck Replacement Bids

The Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to oversee concrete deck replacement and painting of steel members on Bridge 3-155 North and South spanning the Broadkill River.

The bid submittal date has been extended to Oct. 20.

Scope of Work

This project involves performing concrete bridge deck replacement, bearing replacement, pedestal construction, steel painting, and repair of concrete piers and abutments on Bridge 3-155 North and South carrying State Route 1 over the Broadkill River.

The Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to oversee concrete deck replacement and painting of steel members on Bridge 3-155 North and South spanning the Broadkill River.

The project includes cleaning and painting of steel members. New steel fascia of exterior beams or girders will be abrasive blast-cleaned according to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6). Fraying surfaces of splices and connections of all new structural steel elements will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10).

New steel will then be coated with NEPCOAT List A coatings including an inorganic zinc-rich primer, epoxy intermediate and aliphatic polyurethane topcoat. The owner-approved manufacturers include Carboline and International Paint.

Existing steel beams or girders will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6) or abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10) for fraying surfaces of splices and connections. Existing steel members will then be coated with the standard NEPCOAT List B system including an organic zinc-rich epoxy primer, epoxy intermediate and aliphatic polyurethane topcoat. The owner-approved manufacturers include Carboline, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser Coatings.

Prior to commencing any cleaning operations, a containment system to capture abrasive blasting residue, spent blasting mediums, rust and paint particles according to SSPC Guide 6 Class 1 A containment is required.
