The project includes lump sum items for coating existing and new structural steel members. The steel will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10), and testing for soluble salt with as-needed chloride remediation. The steel will be coated with a three-coat organic zinc-epoxy-urethane system selected from NEPCOAT List B. The owner-approved coating manufacturers include Ameron (PPG), Carboline, Wasser, Sherwin-Williams and International Paint.

The awarded contractor will also oversee coating of existing arch suspender cables and steel girder bottom flanges over a railway. Work includes zone coating interiors of tie girders, arch ribs and lateral bracing. An additional 800 square feet of spot painting existing and new structural steel on interior surfaces of arch span members is required.

The project includes an additional lump sum item for penetrating sealant and caulking application with an approximated cost of $355,000. Contractors will oversee 2,990 square yards of high molecular weight methacrylate sealing of cracks in bridge deck surfaces, 1,516 square yards of epoxy resin protective coating of reinforced concrete surfaces, and 702 square yards of protective coating for cement concrete pavements and shoulders. Additionally, the project will require 2,800 square yards of surface preparation via hydro-demolition for placement of a new latex-modified concrete bridge deck wearing surface.

Contractors will administer 1,624 square yards of penetrating sealant protective coating for reinforced concrete surfaces. The owner-approved penetrating sealant manufacturers include BASF and Euclid.

Containment according to Guide 7 is required. Certifications to SSPC-QP 1, QP2 and QP 3 are also required.
