San Diego Seeking Bids for Transit Project

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is seeking bids for its Fashion Valley Elevator Replacement project in San Diego, California.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is responsible for an estimated 300,000 trips each weekday or 88,000,000 annual passenger trips. Its fleet consists of 128 trolley cars and 800 busses as of 2018.

Bids are due for this project on Oct. 24.

Scope of Work

This project involves the replacement of an elevator within a transit center. In this project, various concrete, gypsum and steel surfaces will be coated using a zinc-coating system.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is seeking bids for its Fashion Valley Elevator Replacement project in San Diego, California.

All concrete surfaces in this project will be coated using a four-coat system that includes one coat of primer and three coats of latex. All steel and iron substrates will be coated using a two-coat system consisting of a zinc coat and a light industrial topcoat. Galvanized-metal surfaces will be coated using a four-coat system that consists of one coat of galvanized primer and three coats of latex. Finally, all gypsum board and plaster substrates will be coated using a three-coat system that consists of one coat of primer sealer and two coats of latex.

Shop-painting that occurs within this project will use the standards associated with Shop-Painting Applicators (SSPC-QP 3). Steel surfaces will be cleaned and prepared using the standards associated with Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1).

Surface preparation will occur on metal surfaces using the standards associated with Commercial Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 6) and Power-Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 3). Any shop painting in this project will comply with the standards that go along with Touching Up Shop-Painted Surfaces (SSPC-PA 1). Galvanized Steel surfaces will be prepared in accordance to Brush-Off Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 16). For any touchup painting in this project, the standards associated with Hand-Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 2) or Power-Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 3) should be used. All ferrous-metal surfaces will be prepared for shop priming using the standards associated with Commercial Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 6). Finally, all steel finishes will be surface prepared according to White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 5).

Approved coating manufacturers are Behr, Benjamin-Moore, California, Conco, Diamond Vogel, PPG, Dunn-Edwards, Hempel, Kelly-Moore, McCormick, Pratt & Lambert, Rodda, Rust-Oleum, Sherwin-Williams, Valspar and Vista.
