The project requires abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10/NACE 2) on members that require total paint removal. Steel will be coated with the NYSDOT 708-01 Steel Paints Class 1 system. The system will be applied as a shop- or a field-applied coating over a Near White (SSPC-SP 10/NACE 2) abrasive blast-cleaned surface.

The steel will receive a three-coat system with an organic zinc-rich epoxy primer with pigment primarily consisting of zinc dust. The coating will require testing and must meet NEPCOAT Qualified List B approval criterion. The owner-approved coating manufacturers are Carboline, PPG, International Paint and Sherwin-Williams.

The project includes removal of the existing corrugated beam guide rail to clean, prime and paint the posts and backup channel. The project also includes Commercial abrasive blast-cleaning (NACE 3) of abutments and lock-sheet piling followed by the standard coating system.

Class A containment system for paint removal, as well as treatment and disposal of lead-based coating waste, is required.
