The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation of the Nature Inn at Bald Eagle located in Howard, Pennsylvania.
The Nature Inn offers 16 overnight guest rooms and multiple meeting spaces overlooking Bald Eagle State Park. The Inn showcases geothermal heating and cooling, a 2,800-gallon rainwater harvesting system and has diverted 73% of construction waste from landfills. The building utilizes more than 80% FSC-certified wood framing, finishes and furniture, and all low-VOC paints, stains, adhesives and carpeting.
Bids are due May 16.
Scope of Work
The chosen contractor will perform renovation of the Nature Inn, including complete painting of the fiber cement siding and trim.
The manufacturer will first ensure that the maximum moisture content of fiber-cement boards does not exceed 12% or 15% for wood and wood panel products before performing coating application. Fiber cement substrates, including siding and trim, will require coating with a three-coat system including a spot primer with a two-coat acrylic latex gloss finish. Wood substrates such as wood and wood-based panel products will require coating with a latex primer for use on exterior wood, and two coats of an acrylic latex gloss finish.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will provide a complete list of colors supplied by the manufacturer in order to match new coatings to the existing colors.
Work will also include silicone, non-staining silicone, urethane and mildew-resistant joint sealant application. Joint sealants must be protected by a Special Installer’s Warranty for a period of two years from the date of final acceptance.
The approved coating manufacturer is Sherwin-Williams. The approved joint sealant manufacturers include Pecora, Sika, Tremco, BASF, Polymeric Systems, Down Corning, Bostik or an approved equal.
