Betsy Ross Bridge Painting Work Out for Bid

The Delaware River Port Authority is seeking contractors interested in performing the second phase of coating and steel repairs on the Betsy Ross Bridge thru-truss spans in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.

Bids are due April 3.

Scope of Work

This project will involve performing the second phase of steel and concrete repairs as well as surface preparation and coating on the thru-truss spans of the Betsy Ross Bridge, otherwise known as the Ross Memorial Bridge, spanning the Delaware River. The project will also include above- and below-deck railing repairs, platform and pier modifications, concrete spall and crack repairs and drainage repairs.

The Delaware River Port Authority is seeking contractors interested in performing the second phase of coating and steel repairs on the Betsy Ross Bridge thru-truss spans in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.

The contractor will oversee surface preparation of steel members to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10) followed by application of a three-coat system utilizing an organic zinc-rich primer, epoxy intermediate and aliphatic acrylic urethane finish coating. Silica sand abrasive may not be used.

Existing coatings are confirmed to contain lead, chromium, cadmium and other hazardous materials. Containment to SSPC Class 1A is required.

An additional RFP for performing construction management services, including coatings and structural inspection, for the Betsy Ross Bridge painting and steel repairs will be bidding through March 28.

The coating inspector will require certification with a NACE and SSPC C-3 Competent Person Designation, and must also have a minimum of five years' construction inspection experience related to the repainting of major bridges involving containment and disposal of lead-based paints, surface preparation and coating applications. The structural inspector must be a graduate engineer and/or NICET certified and have five years' experience in structural rehabilitation and steel construction.
