Contractors Needed for MN Library Refurb

Friday, November 30, 2018

Hennepin County, Minnesota, is soliciting contractors for the refurbishment of the Eden Prairie Library.

The original Eden Prairie Library was built in 1924 as part of a consolidated school. The library closed in 1950 and for the next 36 years the county got its books from bookmobiles and reading centers. The library reopened in 1986 and was relocated to its current space in 2004.

With funding from the Minnesota State Office of Environmental Assistance and two private companies, the library became the first public building in Minnesota to have a hydrogen fuel cell installed in the building.

Hennepin County, Minnesota, is soliciting contractors for the refurbishment of the Eden Prairie Library.

This project is estimated to cost $7.3 million. Bids are due for this project by Dec.19.

Scope of Work

The awarded contractor is responsible for the library’s refurbishment, coating of exterior steel substrates and various interior coating applications.

When completing coating to the exterior of the building, the contractor is to first clean all steel substrates receiving paint to Commercial (SSPC-SP6) standard. Once the surfaces have been properly prepared, the contractor is to coat them with a high-solids epoxy and urethane system. The system will involve two prime epoxy coats and two coats of a high-solids, high-build, two-component acrylic urethane.

While completing coating to the interior of the building, the contractor will be required to coat non-traffic concrete substrates with a prime coat and two coats of an interior latex. Traffic concrete surfaces will be given two coats of a clear, water-based concrete floor sealer. When coating interior concrete masonry substrates, the contractor is required to apply a latex block filler and two latex topcoats.

The contractor will also be responsible for the coating of interior steel substrates with a rust-inhibitive primer and two semi-gloss latex coats. Aluminum surfaces scheduled to be painted are to receive a quick-drying primer for aluminum and two coats of an interior latex. The contractor is also to coat dressed lumber and wood panel substrates with one coat of a latex-based wood primer and two coats of an interior latex system. Gypsum boards are to be coated with an interior latex primer and two coats of an interior latex.

Owner-approved brands include Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, ICI Paints, Envirocoat Technologies BASF Group or an approved equal.
