Contractors Needed for NY Campus Painting

The Hudson Valley Community College is seeking contractors for a one-year-term interior and exterior painting contract for its campus in Troy, New York.

Hudson Valley Community College was founded in 1953 as the Hudson Valley Technical Institute, an offshoot of the Veterans Vocational School. The initial objective of the school was to provide hands-on vocational training for veterans returning from war.Today, the school offers over 85 academic degree and certification programs.

Bids are due on July 17.

Scope of Work 

The awarded contractor will clean and coat interior and exterior surfaces throughout the campus, including concrete, concrete masonry units (CMU), gypsum board, stucco, exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), and various types of metal. Non-traffic concrete substrate surfaces will be coated with one of two coating options: a three-coat latex system, or a two-coat high-build epoxy system. Pedestrian-traffic concrete substrates will be coated with a slip-resistant latex floor enamel or epoxy-urethane resinous floor system.

Interior CMU, as well as surfaces in any food-prep area, will be coated with an acrylic-epoxy system. Interior gypsum board and plaster surfaces for this project are to be coated with a three-coat latex system, while office areas, restrooms, shower rooms and kitchens will receive a two-coat latex system. Any interior doors, windows, frames and/or trim will be coated with two coats of an acrylic semi-gloss.
 
Exterior concrete, clay masonry, stucco, cementitious siding and non-traffic surfaces will be coated with a three-coat latex system. When coating the exterior concrete surfaces with pedestrian traffic, the contractor will use one coat of a slip-resistant latex and a matching topcoat. Exterior CMU will receive a latex block filler and a two-coat latex system.
The contractor will clean and coat exterior ferrous metal, galvanized and aluminum substrates with an anti-corrosive primer and a water-borne acrylic system. All wood substrates scheduled to receive paint are to be coated with a three-coat latex system. Exterior plastic trim substrates are to be coated with a three-coat latex system with either a flat or low-sheen. Rough siding will receive two coats of an exterior acrylic solid stain.
 
The contractor is also responsible for the coating of exterior gypsum board and EIFS substrates using an acrylic system with flat sheen. Exterior windows, frames and trim for this project are to be coated with two coats of a semi-gloss acrylic. Any exterior handrails in need of paint will receive two coats of an industrial urethane alkyd enamel.
 
Owner-approved Manufacturers include Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Glidden, PPG, Pratt & Lambert or an approved equal.
