Contractors Needed for Two-Tank Coating

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is seeking contractors for the recoating of the Bellevue 2 and Turkey Hill Ground Water Storage Tanks, in Arlington, Massachusetts.

Bids are due June 27. The cost estimate for this project is $6,515,735.

Scope of Work

This project involves recoating and rehabilitating the interior and exterior surfaces of existing 3.7 million-gallon and 2 million-gallon ground water storage tanks.

Contractors will abrasive blast-clean interior tank surfaces to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10). The interior will then be coated with a high-build epoxy or polyurethane lining system.

The exterior tank surfaces will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6) and coated with a zinc-rich primer, epoxy intermediate and polyurethane finish. Owner-approved coating manufacturers include Tnemec, Sherwin-Williams and Carboline, or an equal.

Containment and disposal of abrasive-blast debris is required.

The work includes cleaning and resealing joints between the chime plate and concrete foundation with a polyurethane sealant. The joints between the roof beam and roof plate will be sealed with an elastomeric sealant. Owner-approved brands include Pecora, Sika, BASF, ITW Engineered Polymers, Grace Construction or an equal.

The contractor will apply a waterproof cementitious coating to the concrete tank foundations. Owner-approved brands include BASF, Euclid Chemical, Sika or an equal.  

A two-year coatings warranty is required. Dehumidification is required as well.  

New cathodic protection systems will be installed for both tanks.

The work includes erecting a scaffolding system. Communication equipment owners will move communication equipment from the tank to the scaffold system.
