PennDOT Seeks Contractors for Fleming Park Bridge

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for the rehabilitation of the Fleming Park Bridge, located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Bids are due April 26.

The cost is estimated between $10 million and $12.5 million.

Scope of Work

The project includes the rehabilitation and coating of the Fleming Park fixed through-truss bridge, spanning 361 feet over the Ohio River west of Pittsburgh.

The project includes the rehabilitation and coating of the Fleming Park fixed through-truss bridge, spanning 361 feet over the Ohio River west of Pittsburgh.

Contractors will oversee coating of new and existing structural steel, and coating structural steel mating surfaces. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Near White (SSPC-SP 10) standard, tested for soluble salts with as-needed chloride remediation, and recoated with a three-coat organic zinc-epoxy-urethane system selected from NEPCOAT List B; the owner-approved manufacturers are Ameron (PPG), Carboline, Wasser, Sherwin-Williams and International Paint. Containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 and waste disposal according to Guide 7 are required.

Work will also include painting of existing and new structural steel top flanges using a zinc-rich primer. The west view waterline pipe, Neville Township force main pipe and all associated support steel will require coating application.

Contractors will perform 4,370 square yards of surface preparation of concrete bridge deck surfaces using hydro demolition, and 6,668 square yards of penetrating protective coating application for reinforced concrete surfaces. The owner-approved protective coating manufacturers are Chemmasters, Dayton Superior, Degen Oil & Chemical, WR Meadows, Pruett-Schaffer, Vexcon, Wicktek and EE Zimmerman. Work will also include 22 square yards of membrane waterproofing application to be applied on other surfaces.

The approved contractor will also oversee cleaning of five existing downspouts and suppers.

Certifications for SSPC-QP 1, SSPC-QP 2 and SSPC-QP 3 are required.
